Photo puzzle

Your photo as a jigsaw puzzle

Turn a photo into a jigsaw puzzle for your 3D printer. All pieces print together, flat on the bed, with the picture in colour on top: thin layers of a few filaments, swapped at the layers we tell you. Choose the size, the number of pieces and the tab style, add a tray if you like, and see it in 3D before you download.

What is TD?

TD (transmission distance) is how thick a filament must be before you can no longer see the colour below it. Light colours are more see-through than dark ones. We estimate it from the colour; if your filament brand lists a TD value, fill it in for a more exact preview and better layer choices.

1.6 mm
. How high the picture rises above the solid part. More depth gives more shades, but takes longer.

The pieces print side by side with this gap. Too tight and they stick together; too wide and the puzzle feels loose.

    • Print all pieces at once, flat on the bed in their places: then one filament plan works for every piece. Use the layer heights above and 100% infill.
    • Turn on elephant foot compensation in your slicer (about 0.15 mm), so the first layer doesn't glue the pieces together. Then gently bend the plate or push the pieces apart.
    • 3MF holds everything: the pieces, each filament colour and the filament changes. PrusaSlicer opens it ready to slice. In other slicers, add the filament changes from the plan if they're missing (the + on the layer slider).
    • STL: the pieces as one file, picture on top. With a tray or colour areas you get a ZIP with every part and the plan.
